Jamie Dornan calls Dermot Kennedy his new best friend after night at 'best pub on the planet'

Jamie Dornan and Dermot Kennedy have struck up a bromance after a night on the town at the ‘best pub on the planet’ in the US this week.

The Belfast born star, who is starring in the Kenneth Branagh flick based on his hometown, is currently in New York to promote the movie.

But the 50 Shades of Grey star wasted no time making the most of the downtime on the trip, and met up with some Irish pals, including the Giants hitmaker at well known Irish pub, The Dead Rabbit on Tuesday.

Jamie sent fans into a frenzy when he posted a snap of him and Dermot linking arms with two other pals, saying: “New best friends”.

The 39-year-old actor was in the city to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon as part of his press tour for Belfast.

Speaking on the show, Jamie joked that he had attempted to work with award winning director Branagh in the past.

“I did audition for Thor when he directed that way back when, but I don’t even think he saw my tape, it was that bad,” he joked.

However, he said working on Belfast, where they were both born and raised, felt like a full circle moment.

He added: “I grew up with a picture of Kenneth Branagh on my bookshelf of him and my dad. My dad was a professor of medicine.

“He opened a maternity ward at a hospital my dad spent the majority of his career at so there is a picture of my dad and Kenneth Branagh and other doctors in my house. So it was cool, full circle.”

The friendly meetup in New York this week comes after Dermot, 30, who recently made the move to the Big Apple, was spotted taking part in an Irish sing song at an Irish pub within hours of his arrival.

Announcing the relocation, the Dubliner said: “Here for the foreseeable. Brought all the new music in my bag with me. Things look good, and this year feels beautiful already.”
