Jamie Carragher "waiting" for Kia Joorabchian phone call after brutal Everton comments

Jamie Carragher insists he will welcome a phone call from Kia Joorabchian after he took aim at the agent and his relationship with Everton.

The Toffees are sat in the bottom three and sacked Frank Lampard on Monday after their 2-0 defeat to West Ham at the weekend. They've only won three games all season and the former Chelsea boss paid the price, but their problems go much deeper than merely the man in the dugout.

Everton's hierarchy have been the subject of angry banners from fans, who have been increasingly vocal in their frustration in recent weeks. The Merseysiders have massively underachieved in recent years with Farhad Moshiri's millions being poorly spent and Carragher has attributed some of that to his dealings with Joorabchian.

He said on Sky Sports on Monday night: "I said on this programme six to 12 months ago Everton are the worst run club in the country, and it wasn’t a flippant remark - I believed it. I’m not saying that as an ex-Liverpool player, I’m saying that as an ex-Everton fan. When I made that comment Everton got in touch with me and I actually admired it.

"Almost on the front foot trying to defend their club, and I thought okay, fair enough, you say some things in the media and people come back at you, but I didn’t think I was wrong then, and I’m not wrong when I say it now.

"You start with the owner, Farhad Moshiri, he doesn’t know what he’s doing but he’s got a lot of money. He’s put a lot of money in. He’s got a very unhealthy relationship with Kia Joorabchian, and that partnership has caused a lot of problems at Everton. Players coming in, managers getting changed left, right and centre. Why does every Everton manager fail? Why?"

Gary Neville told his colleague that the agent would be ringing him after his comments - but the former Liverpool man insists he has no issues picking up his phone. "I'll be waiting for it" insisted Carragher.

The two men are certainly no strangers to one another with Carragher having been heavily critical of Arsenal's transfer policy when Joorabchian was previously involved in the dealings at the Emirates, taking clients such as Willian and David Luiz to North London during the early tenure of the Gunners' sporting director, Edu.

Joorabchian has also previously hit back at Neville, who made remarks about Carlos Tevez back during lockdown. Joorabchian managed Tevez and defended the Argentine, who made a major impact at Manchester United, but left in controversial circumstances to join Manchester City with Neville suggesting he had his mind elsewhere whilst at Old Trafford.

The agent has also taken aim at Carragher in the past after he questioned who was making the signings at Arsenal. “I’m very surprised because Jamie is one of the people that monopolises Sky Sports commentary. Sky Sports producers pay a lot of money to him – hundreds of thousands, so I can’t understand why he doesn’t check his facts before he speaks," claimed Joorabchian.
