Jamie Carragher trolls Manchester United great Gary Neville with two Soccer Aid legends

Jamie Carragher couldn't resist throwing a jibe at Gary Neville ahead of Soccer Aid.

Liverpool legend Carragher and United great Neville formed an unlikely centre-back pairing as they represented England against a World XI in the 2022 edition of Soccer Aid. The match sees teams of former players and celebrities take each other on in a game to raise money for children's charity UNICEF.

While the defensive duo represented the Three Lions, the World XI has a star-studded line up which included former United stars Patrice Evra and Dimitar Berbatov as well as full-back royalty in Brazilian icons Cafu and Roberto Carlos. Carragher snapped a photo with the pair before the match and aimed a sly dig at Neville with his caption.

Posting the photograph to social media, Carragher said: Everybody grows up & wants to be @Oficial_RC3 @officialcafu," accompanied with a wink face emoji.

Back in 2014 during an episode of Sky Sport's Monday Night Football, while speaking alongside Neville, Carragher famously said: "Nobody wants to grow up to be a Gary Neville," as he explained that he doesn't believe kids go into football wanting to be a full-back and end up there ‘by hook or by crook.'

Carragher and Neville formed a pretty solid defensive pairing, even if they were troubled by the pace of Usain Bolt and the continued brilliance of Andriy Shevchenko. The World XI took the lead from the penalty spot after Chunkz was adjudged to have brought down Patrice Evra in the box. TikTok star Noah Beck converted from the spot.

England fought their way back into the match though and equalised through their own penalty after Chunkz was scythed down by Beck. Mr. Essex himself, Mark Wright, managed to squirm the spot-kick past Petr Cech after Carragher had ensured Chunkz didn't take it.
