Jamie Carragher sparked an on-line war of words with broadcasting colleague Gary Neville on Saturday morning, calling out the former Manchester United captain for failing to criticise the club's owners while he was still a player at Old Trafford.
The exchange began when Neville Tweeted about United's fixture against Brentford. The ex-England right-back asked followers: "Right I’m a couple of hours from Brentford. What we thinking?"
Retweeting Neville, Carragher responded by writing: "I’m thinking you will call for the Glazers to sell the club, after not saying it once while they paid you." The Tweet sparked a huge flurry of activity on the social media platform before Neville quickly retorted, by responding: "Whilst we were battering your lot and winning league title after league title."

Neville has been scathing in his opinion of Manchester United's owners over the past few seasons, insisting that they should sell the club.
Unwilling to let the matter drop, former Liverpool stalwart Carragher, came back to Neville by quipping: "Because of SAF (Sir Alex Ferguson), so if you get another top manager the Glazers are fine to stay! You still getting paid as an ambassador?"
With the row descending further, Sky pundit Neville Tweeted a screen grab of an historic article in which Carragher appears to deflect blame away from Liverpool's former disgraced owners Tom Hicks and George Gillet by blaming the players for a run of poor performances. Neville asked the questions of Carragher: "This you mate?"
He'd then add: "That’s a lie! Not been paid a penny from the club in 11 years!!"
Defending the article, Carragher Tweeted: "I don’t like to make excuses for my or my teams poor performances, you should try that approach at Salford & stop sacking managers!"
Carragher and Neville enjoy one of the most popular broadcasting partnerships in UK sport, earning plaudits for their analysis on Sky's Monday Night Football show in particular. But prior to entering the world of sports media, both players enjoyed long successful careers with their respective clubs and played in numerous fierce encounters against each other.
That level of competitiveness has often spilt into spats on social media, as once again demonstrated on Saturday morning.
