Jamie Carragher snubs Erling Haaland for Arsenal star as best Premier League player this season

Former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher has named Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus as the best Premier League player this season so far. The Brazilian has hit the ground running since joining the club this summer, already showing signs that he can be a key player for the Gunners.

The 25-year-old was signed to help solve Mikel Arteta's goal scoring woes, having failed to have a prolific centre-forward option last season. Jesus has already scored two and assisted three in his opening three Premier League games this season, showing plenty of what he has to offer.

Discussing the impact of the striker, Arteta said: "I wouldn’t like to play against him [Gabriel Jesus]. I’ve never been a defender, but I can imagine I wouldn’t enjoy it. He’s so mobile, so intuitive, always sharp and proactive to play in any moment and phase in the game, and it’s a real threat."

Both the club and the player will be hoping that form can continue on their quest to make a return to the Champions League and potentially further. Given his blistering start, Carragher has claimed he is the best player in the Premier League so far this campaign.

Writing in his Telegraph column, he said: "No matter how early it is, Arsenal look sharper and better equipped than a year ago. Gabriel Jesus could be a game-changing signing. He has been the Premier League’s best player in the first month.

"After his long loan spell, William Saliba looks to have finally joined at the right time. There was a clamour for him to come sooner. His development in France – where he won Young Player of the Year – means he is better equipped for the Premier League, adding the physique and power Arsenal needed in defence.

"It was also essential Arsenal signed another left-back in Oleksandr Zinchenko. Lack of cover for Kieran Tierney cost them the Champions League place last season."

It remains to be seen if the Gunners can continue on their rich run of form that they've enjoyed so far. However, if they are to do so, Jesus - along with his fellow new additions - could be a key factor in that.
