Jamie Carragher sends Liverpool title warning as Man City warned 'pressure does crazy things'

Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City and Liverpool will have a completely different feeling going into the final day of the season and puts all the pressure on Pep Guardiola's side to ensure they do not give away the Premier League title.

Jurgen Klopp's side reduced the gap between the two sides to just one point with an impressive come-from-behind victory against Southampton on Tuesday evening that sets up a grandstand finish to the title race on Sunday afternoon. City know that if they beat Aston Villa at home the title will be theirs regardless of what result the Reds can get against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield, but television pundit Carragher insists that the pressure on the two sides is not comparable.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Liverpool's victory, he said: "You would rather be in Man City's position, obviously, but what I would also say is, I think there will be a completely different feeling from a Liverpool point of view to Man City. Liverpool are going there with hope. There will be a party atmosphere. I think for Man City, there will be a nervousness leading into the game. That may not come out in their game, but at one stage (in the season) they're 14 points clear.

"Mahrez misses a penalty at West Ham. He scores that and the league's over. It's not because of the level we're playing at, if that was amateur football or the highest level now, that would effect you. We're only human. You miss a penalty and the league could be over. Liverpool have now taken it to the final day and the position City were in, I think it will almost be relief if they get their hands on title. And then the joy will kick in. But at one stage I think we all believed that they had the title wrapped up."

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp felt that the title would finish in Pep Guardiola's hands, but refused to rule out the possibility of final day drama throwing up a stunning result.

Speaking alongside Carragher, he said: "Liverpool can still dream, of course they can. 99 times out of 100, Manchester City would beat Aston Villa at home. But it only takes a sending off, a moment of madness. I was there when they nearly threw it away against a team that was fighting against relegation (QPR) 10 years ago. Craziness. What happened that day shows that pressure does crazy things to people.

"Now City might score early and it might be a procession and they go on and win four or five nil. That's how great they are. But make no mistake, strange things happen in football. We've seen it before and we'll see it again. Villa are not going to roll over for them. It's their last game of the season. They're going to go and show what they can do.

"I do believe that Manchester City will go on and win the title, but stranger things have happened."
