Jamie Carragher sends blunt six-word message to Liverpool players after Bournemouth defeat

Jamie Carragher pulled no punches in his brief assessment of Liverpool's 1-0 away defeat at Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Reds slipped to a seventh Premier League away defeat in the early kick-off as they lost ground on Tottenham Hotspur in the race for top four. Antonio Conte's side ensured that they capitalised on Liverpool's slip-up as they brushed aside Nottingham Forest 3-1 in north London.

Newcastle United, who were in action on Sunday afternoon (4:30pm kick-off) against Wolves, were looking to add further misery on Jurgen Klopp's elite European aspirations. A 2-1 win over Julen Lopetegui's side saw the Magpies reclaim fifth place with a game in hand.

The former Liverpool defender was at St James' Park for the final match of the weekend in the English top-flight and it was the commentator, Martin Tyler, who brought up an incident during the Reds' win in the North East last month.

Despite running out 2-0 winners, Carragher opted to name Magpies winger Allan Saint-Maximin as the Player of the Match. The voice of Sky Sports' Premier League coverage revealed that the decision irked some Liverpool players.

"It's Saint-Maximin... who you voted man of the match against Liverpool and the Liverpool players, I can tell you, afterwards weren't happy about that they won the game 2-0," said Tyler. "I was with you, I thought he was excellent."

And in light of their recent defeat at the Vitality Stadium, Carragher wasted no time in offering his thoughts on their mishap, saying: "I wasn't happy with them yesterday."
