Jamie Carragher says Antonio Conte has 'major' Tottenham worry and Arsenal fans will love why

Arsenal currently have bigger things to worry about than their fierce north London rivals.

Sitting at the top of the tree and setting a blistering pace for their top-four rivals last season, Mikel Arteta's side has been the season's surprise package so far. Even a week which saw them fail to win consecutive matches for the first time all season doesn't take away from their start to the campaign.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are labouring to keep up. Antonio Conte's men have hit a rough patch but remain in contention for the league fight and Champions League group-stage qualification. It's not been as seamless as Arteta's summer though.

Both sides finished their business early in the window and made key acquisitions in important areas. Yet they were still scrambling around come deadline day for extra midfielders and attackers. Arsenal fans quickly left that behind them as they stormed to nine wins from 11 league matches.

Spurs have seven from their first 12 and are only five points behind - albeit having played a game more - but the manner in which the Gunners have torn their opponents apart has caught the eye more than Conte's pragmatic style of play. It's something that Jamie Carragher thinks will be annoying the fans across north London. "Conte has a major problem at Tottenham Hotspur, he wrote in his column in the Telegraph. "It is called Arsenal.

"One team in North London is generating headlines for playing with a youthful, energetic swagger. The other is seen as more pragmatic and counterattacking."

Despite the differing views of the two sides, the underlying stats aren't too dissimilar. Arsenal have scored 25 goals from 19.4 xG and conceded 11 from 10.4 xG. Spurs have scored 23 from 19.2 xG and conceded 14 from 13.9 xG. It doesn't tell the whole story, but indicates that things are relatively even, but Arsenal have more points.

"Neither side is 'right' or 'better' in their approach," added Carragher. "It remains to be seen whether Mikel Arteta or Conte win more trophies at the end of their respective reigns - but Tottenham supporters are looking at their rivals and craving similar edge-of-the-seat football.

"I get that one team in London is currently flying with an exciting brand of football. But for all the praise of Arteta this season - and I agree with it - there is an irony that he would consider his career a success if he wins half as much as Conte already has.

"Arteta is in the process of proving himself capable of being a Premier League winner. Conte already is one with nothing to prove."

If things continue to go the way they are, then Arsenal fans won't complain. Arteta must start somewhere and is a much less experienced manager than Conte. His side have already shown progression from the last campaign, and their season won't be defined on winning the title or not, whereas Conte's need for immediate results could see the pressure ramped up on him quickly.
