Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says he doesn’t understand why Jurgen Klopp reacted the way he did to a question in a press conference.
The Reds boss was speaking to the media ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League clash against Rangers at Ibrox. One of the questions related to recent quotes from former Liverpool star Didi Hamann.
Hamann had recently given an interview, where he claimed that Liverpool had lost their ‘spark’.

"This Liverpool team looks tired, they look pedestrian and they just look flat," Hamann told talkSPORT. "I’m not sure where the spark is going to come from because they’ve won games in the past."
Klopp was asked if he felt Hamann was correct with his assessment, and the Liverpool boss fired back with a sarcastic response.
“Who said that? Oh great! A fantastic source, well respected everywhere," Klopp said. "Hamann played for Liverpool [but] that does not give you the right to say what you want especially when you have no idea.
"I actually think Didi Hamann does not deserve that you use his phrase to ask a question. Do me a favour and ask your own question. Try to ask without using the word spark.”
Now Carragher, having watched Klopp’s answer to the question, has explained why he doesn’t understand the reaction from the Liverpool boss. The former Reds defender went on to say that he even sent a message to Hamann after hearing Klopp’s remarks.
Carragher told the Mail Online : “I'm really close with Didi and I text him last night just to see if he was still alive and was okay!
“I saw the question in the press conference and didn't see why Jurgen reacted the way he did because whoever asked it said Hamann said "you need a spark" - and Liverpool do.
“I didn't get where the frustration came from. I didn't know whether it was something that goes back to when Didi was a pundit in Germany and Jurgen being the manager of Dortmund.
“I'll try and get to the bottom of it! But it didn't seem that [bad]...I've said much worse about Klopp and his Liverpool team and I absolutely love them to bits, so I didn't get where the frustration come from or whether it had been lost in translation what he said.
“I haven't seen the full interview - it was just what the journalist asked Klopp.”
When asked if it could get to a point where Klopp's position as Liverpool manager is questioned, Carragher answered: "No, it won't get there. I think Liverpool is different."
He added: "What he has done at the club for seven years is probably quite unique in football, but it is not unique to Liverpool."
