Jamie Carragher believes most Liverpool fans want Everton to avoid Premier League relegation this season.
The Toffees are in real danger of being relegated for the first time in more than 70 years, sitting 18th in the table and two points behind Burnley above them.
Frank Lampard’s side still have a game in hand over the Clarets, but with six matches to go it’s a perilous situation.
Carragher revealed how upset he would be if Everton were to go down, a viewpoint he feels many Liverpool fans would agree with even if they have enjoyed their big rivals struggling so much.
“If you ask me, and I think a lot of Liverpool fans, you don’t want Everton to go down,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“For me, as a kid, a player and the job I do now, this is the biggest day.
“If you said to me we miss out on these two games next season, I’d be absolutely devastated.”
Andy Robertson scored Liverpool’s opening goal at Anfield as they beat Everton 2-0 and pushed the Toffees further into trouble.
While the left-back believes fans would miss the derby, he was not particularly sympathetic towards Everton’s plight.
“The derby is a big game. For fans especially they always look to see when the derbies are,” Robertson told BBC Sport.
“The fans would miss it most. I’m a big believer that in a 38-game season you get what you deserve. Let’s see.
“They’re in a dogfight. Burnley won today. They’re fighting.
“Everton need to win games to stay up. If they do we’ll look forward to more derbies and if they don’t they’ll have to deal with it more than us and I’m sure they’ll bounce back.”
