Jamie Carragher reckons Nottingham Forest 'seriously scaring' rivals amid Barcelona comparison

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes Nottingham Forest will be "seriously scaring" their Premier League rivals with their summer spending.

Steve Cooper's side have started the 2022/23 campaign well with four points collected from their opening three league fixtures, including a win against West Ham and draw at Everton. The Reds have added 17 players to their squad since promotion in May after losing the likes of Brice Samba, Keinan Davis, Djed Spence and more.

Forest have spent over £150million, said to be the second most in Europe after Chelsea, with Morgan Gibbs-White, Emmanuel Dennis, Taiwo Awoniyi and Neco Williams all arriving as part of a rebuild of Cooper's squad.

Many have predicted Forest could replicate Fulham's traumatic 2018/19 campaign, when Slavisa Jokanovic's side spent over £100million on 12 players following promotion. The Cottagers went through three managers and were relegated with only 26 points.

However, Carragher believes Cooper's side will be striking fear across the league after their promising start to the campaign. He told Sky Sports: "Just because you spend doesn't mean you'll stay up but I think you look at what's going on here and you'll be panicking, nervous before the transfer window closes.

"If you see the team Nottingham Forest have outspent, Barcelona, it goes back to why teams are terrified of the Premier League and why foreign teams want that Super League.

"It doesn't [guarantee safety], we've seem teams before," the former Liverpool defender continued. "You go back to Fulham and they've been linked with Nottingham Forest about what could happen when you spend money but they had to make a lot of changes whether they stayed in the Championship or come into the Premier League.

"I think that's a real fear for other clubs because I go back to last week at Goodison Park and Forest are bringing someone off the bench who cost £40 million, Morgan Gibbs-White, and he creates the goal - they could've won but they they went on to draw the game.

"What they've got coming off the bench and the makeup of the squad, it's not going to be much different to on to the pitch and that's going to be a worry for teams who associate the promoted teams as going down.

"I think the start Forest and Fulham have made, they'll be seriously scaring people who've been floating around relegation for the last few years."
