Jamie Carragher raves about Steve Cooper's big change at Nottingham Forest

Jamie Carragher has heaped praise on Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper after his team beat Liverpool.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Forest won the game thanks to Cooper's "great management" in acknowledging that changes needed to be made following a poor start to the season. Forest remain bottom of the Premier League but their latest result means things are now looking up for everyone at the City Ground.

Carragher also noted Cooper's time at Liverpool and the influences he picked up there as key factors to the Forest turnaround. Someone who had a big influence on Cooper, Carragher says, was one of Pep Guardiola's assistant manager at Manchester City, Rodolfo Borrell. The Spaniard worked with Cooper at Liverpool, whom he joined from Barcelona, before moving on to Man City.

"I think it's great management," Carragher said of Forest's recent win. "I know Steve Cooper well from his time at Liverpool academy and a big influence there was coaches from Barcelona, and one of them has now gone on to be Pep Guardiola's assistant.

"So that was always his way of playing, what he did last season and what he started the season with and at the FA as well.

"But I admire managers who say 'no, I need to change it' and he had to change it because if he didn't then he would be out of a job and they were going to get relegated."
