Jamie Carragher questions Liverpool star after Nottingham Forest loss: "What's going on?"

Like Liverpool were at Nottingham Forest, Jamie Carragher is at a loss with one of Jurgen Klopp 's most trusted players.

Fabinho 's flat performances this season have left the Anfield faithful dumfounded, with Carragher included. The Liverpool legend singled out the Brazilian midfielder following the Reds' shock 1-0 defeat to Forest on Saturday.

As Klopp's side slumped to their first loss in four games after a resurgent run of form, Fabinho joined most of his teammates by putting in a sluggish display at the City Ground. The 28-year-old, who was dropped earlier this season after his performances dramatically dipped, won none of his tackles and just one of his ground duels during a tightly-contested affair in Nottingham.

His struggles prompted Carragher to vent his frustration on social media after the final whistle, slamming his old side and Fabinho in particular. "Liverpool were awful, what is going on with Fabinho?" the former Reds defender asked on Twitter, using a mind-blown emoji to express his bewilderment. " [Ibrahima] Konate is needed back ASAP!"

Konate has missed Liverpool's last three matches through injury, leaving Joe Gomez to ably hold the fort at centre-back alongside Virgil van Dijk - until Saturday. The pair couldn't prevent ex-Reds striker Taiwo Awoniyi from getting on the scoresheet, as his 55th-minute goal was enough to give Steve Cooper's side all three points.

Carragher also heaped praise on Forest's manager, adding: "Steve Cooper has changed Forest in the last few weeks to be a lot harder to beat, tactically very good again today."

As for Klopp's thoughts on Liverpool's third Premier League defeat, the Reds boss admitted to BBC Sport : "[It feels] As low as possible. Massive, massive blow because I have no idea how we can lose this game to be honest. Not that we played exceptionally well, not that I expect that but it would have been nice.

"With all the changes we had to make and with the intense week behind us it was clear we had to make a fight of it. The boys did that. The chances they had were pretty much counter attacks where we gave the ball too easily away. We were dangerous and a real threat and the set pieces were 100 per cent chances pretty much.

"That we didn't finish one of these off is the main blow if you want because we cannot put them in better, you cannot move better and if you have one player completely free in the box that is the perfect set piece. The goal we conceded was giving the ball away in a situation which should not happen, then the set piece was sloppy and they finished it off."
