Jamie Carragher called himself an "idiot commentator" for questioning Kevin De Bruyne's brilliance on Thursday night.
Manchester City moved within five points of Premier League leaders Arsenal after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. Riyad Mahrez scored the winner for the visitors after getting on the end of an irresistible cross from fellow substitute Jack Grealish.
De Bruyne, 31, had a quiet game by his lofty standards but still created a moment of magic in the second half after being questioned by Carragher. The Liverpool icon may think twice before doubting the Belgian during his next stint on commentary.
"Not been his [De Bruyne's] day today," said Carragher on the microphone shortly before De Bruyne took a corner. The City midfielder then played a quick one-two with Phil Foden before finding Nathan Ake in the box with a superb delivery.
Frustratingly for De Bruyne and his City colleagues, Ake's header crashed against the woodwork. Yet Carragher still found himself with his tail in between his legs. "What idiot commentator would question Kevin De Bruyne?" joked the Sky Sports favourite.
Banter aside, Carragher is a huge fan of De Bruyne. Speaking after City's 3-2 EFL Cup win against Liverpool in December, the ex-defender told Sky Sports of the Belgian: "I think he has been the best player in the Premier League for the past four or five years."

Thursday night's result could be vital in the title race. City have closed the gap on Arsenal and could go within two points of their rivals after a pivotal round of Premier League fixtures on January 14 and 15 - or they could find themselves eight points back.
City play Manchester United at Old Trafford on the Saturday, while Arsenal travel to rivals Tottenham on Sunday. It's impossible to predict how either game will unfold, considering they're both local derbies. That being said, United are in good form - and Spurs are not.
Chelsea, meanwhile, find themselves in a dire position. They're 10th in the Premier League, 10 points behind United in fourth. In fact, they are as close to the bottom three as they are to the Champions League spots. That can't be good news for Graham Potter.
The former Brighton manager was appointed by the Blues in September but has failed to get the best out of the expensive squad. Chelsea, who were the biggest spenders in Europe last summer, have won just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures.
Potter was handed a daunting task when he succeeded Thomas Tuchel, one of the most successful managers in Chelsea's history. Tuchel won the Champions League, European Super Cup and Club World Cup during his 20-month spell in charge. He also reached back-to-back FA Cup finals and the EFL Cup final, each of which ended in narrow defeats.
Potter is being linked with the sack and will need to start picking up points in the Premier League sooner rather than later if he's going to survive. Chelsea's next Premier League game is against local rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage on Thursday.
