Jamie Carragher outlines exciting Liverpool expectations for rest of transfer window

Jamie Carragher is expecting Liverpool to make three more signings this summer, having already completed a swoop for Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister joined Liverpool for an initial £45m on Thursday and Carragher feels his signing is just the start of the Reds' transfer business. He believes his former club will bring in two more midfielders following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, as well as a defender.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Carragher said: "I think they need another midfield player at least. I think Liverpool will end up getting another two midfield players and I think they'll need another defender as well.

"Whether that's a centre-back or a full-back remains to be seen. There's a lot of talk whether Liverpool will keep the system they finished the season with and that's really interesting, but I think they'll get another three players in."

Carragher also hailed Mac Allister, branding the Argentine a "super talent" and a "great signing", adding: "He's certainly a good player. Whether he ends up being a good signing, we'll see when the season the starts.

"It looks like he can play every position in midfield, which will help Liverpool. He looks a super talent and Brighton are a brilliant team. The only thing I would say is a lot of players who've come out of Brighton haven't replicated their Brighton form in other teams.

"Is that because they're part of a special system at Brighton? I think it's a great signing for the price as well ... a steal for a World Cup winner who's got Premier League experience and is only 24."

And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested Mac Allister will play a variety of roles for his side, telling club media : "We are adding a very talented, very smart, very technically skilled boy to our squad and this is super news, really it is.

"I do not think the football world needs me to say too much about Alexis' qualities because they are already pretty well known but it is clear that he is someone who can play in a number of positions in the midfield and is an all-rounder, I would say. He is calm and composed and someone with proper game intelligence.

"Of course, he is a player we have known about for a long time and I have watched him grow from a young boy coming into the Premier League to a man who helped his country win the World Cup. That is quite a journey."
