Jamie Carragher makes 'worst run club' claim and gives Everton survival prediction

Jamie Carragher has offered a forthright opinion on Everton, branding them one of 'the worst run clubs in the country if not Europe'.

The former Liverpool centre-back, now a well-known television pundit with Sky Sports, was speaking alongside Gary Neville and Roy Keane during 'The Overlap Live' fan debate, in which supporters from each Premier League club are invited to discuss current burning issues with the panel. And when it came to Everton's battle against relegation, Carragher didn't hold back.

He said: "I think Everton are the worst run club in the country, probably one the worst run in Europe. They must be. They have to be. And that's not just because they've spent lots of money and it hasn't worked - that's happened before.

"Some of the things that Everton do, it's unbelievable. When you think about what they did in January - bringing two full-backs in and then sacking the manager a week later. Bringing [Anwar] El Ghazi in - what was that all about? They brought El Ghazi in from Aston Villa. A winger. I don't even know why.

"That's why they've had five or six managers. I think any manager who goes into any club thinks he's the guy to turn this around. That's why I fear for Frank [Lampard] a little bit, because Everton Football Club now is not a place that you'd want to go as a manager. There's that much going on around you, it's an absolute mess.

"The owner hasn't got a clue has he? You've obviously got the [Alisher] Usmanov thing right now. But in terms of those players, I said a few weeks ago, they're a disgrace."

Speaking directly to Everton fan Barry in the studio, Carragher added: "The Newcastle match. You were poor. It was a lucky win. Everton off the back of it, there was this big thing, but it was a worrying performance."

Carragher's bleak outlook for Everton was backed-up by fellow panellist Neville, who feared the worst for the Blues. Neville said: "I think Everton or Leeds could go down. I do."

"I think if Everton lose to Burnley, you'll go down," Carragher added. "There's obviously panic around Everton, because they're such a huge football club. Burnley and Watford are used to being down there and more often than not eventually they'll go down, but I just think if Everton have a bad defeat at home, imagine what effect that will have. I could imagine at Burnley they would say 'It's OK, we can write that off. We're Burnley, we're supposed to get beat by these teams.

"They are probably expected to go down, whereas with Everton it's that big a situation, that would be my worry, if the home games become that toxic or nervous."

Everton play West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday, before facing-off against Burnley in a true six-pointer at Turf Moor on April 6. The two away matches are followed by games against the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and twice against Leicester City.

The Blues are currently three points above the relegation zone with two games in hand on Watford but have played the same number of games as Sean Dyche's Burnley who are currently four points adrift of the Toffees.
