Jamie Carragher makes Manchester United vs Newcastle Carabao Cup final prediction

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester United will win the Carabao Cup final thanks to their squad's strength in depth.

United are currently on the crest of a wave thanks to their dramatic comeback victory over Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday night. Fred and Antony both scored after the interval to complete the turnaround against the La Liga giants.

Antony came off the bench to score against Barca and proved once again the quality at Erik ten Hag's disposal. Ahead of the game at Wembley Stadium, Carragher admitted that this is why he fancies the Reds to win the League Cup.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "It is two attacking teams, two of the most impressive teams I think we have seen in the Premier League this season. They don't lose often, both are on decent runs in terms of defeats this season.

"I think it has got the makings of a great cup final. I think for Newcastle, [the final] is possibly bigger because it is just so long since the club have won a trophy. We should not forget that Manchester United have not won a trophy for six years and that is normally unheard of, so they need to get back to winning ways.

"The manager that they have got now and the players that they have brought in means it looks like the start of something special for them over the next four or five years. I think Man United will win just for the fact that they expect to win these types of games.

"They are used to being in this arena. I think they have got the edge in terms of the players on the pitch but also what happens from the bench, Manchester United's record this season from bringing players off the bench who can then score a goal or determine a game will have a big factor.

"I think that is one of Ten Hag's big strengths, that he can change a game from the sidelines. He has more options than Eddie Howe."
