Jamie Carragher makes Liverpool transfer prediction after 'interesting' development

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the Reds' business is far from over with the possibility of three more additions following the arrival of Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentina international became the first signing of the summer as he arrived at Anfield from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £35m.

His move forms part of the midfield restructuring on Merseyside after the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita - who was unveiled as a Werder Bremen recruit this week.

Speculation continues to circle with numerous names being linked with moves to the Reds. In recent weeks, OGC Nice's Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach's Manu Kone have been mooted with additions to the engine room, meanwhile Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard has now been linked.

And Carragher believes the work shouldn't stop there. He said speaking to Sky Sports: "They need another midfield player at least. I think Liverpool will end up getting another two midfield players and I think they’ll need a defender as well. Whether that’s a centre-back or a full-back remains to be seen.

"There’s a lot of talk whether Liverpool will keep the system that they finished with, and I think that’s really interesting, but I think they’ll get another three players in, a defender and two midfield players."

"Well he's certainly a good player, whether he ends up being a good signing, we'll see when the season starts," he said on the new Liverpool number 10. "It looks like he can play every position in midfield which will help Liverpool. He looks a super talent.

"Brighton are a brilliant team, the one thing I would say is players coming out of Brighton haven't replicated the form in other teams. Is that because they're apart of a special system at Brighton, De Zerbi's been fantastic this season. That'd be interesting to see.

"A great signing considering the price, £35m is a steal for a World Cup-winner and someone with Premier League experience and is only 24."
