Jamie Carragher labels Liverpool man a 'ghost' and slams 'absolutely stupid' decision in final moments of Leeds defeat

Fabinho's struggles in the Liverpool midfield are not going away as Jamie Carragher compared him to a 'ghost' during the defeat to Leeds Untied at Anfield on Saturday night.

The Brazilian has been criticised this season for his performances in the middle for the Reds and these don't seem to be getting better anytime soon after being substituted on the hour mark in the Leeds defeat.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher also slammed Andy Robertson for leaving his foot in on Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier in the dying stages of the match, allowing him to stay down as the clock ticked on.

Liverpool's defeat to Leeds was their second on the bounce, and fourth all season, in the Premier League after losing to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Carragher, who was commentating at Anfield on Saturday night: said: "Fantastic from Leeds, going right through Liverpool’s midfield like they weren’t there. Fabinho was like a ghost, he went past him that easily.”

The ex-Reds centre back wasn't impressed with Robertson's actions late in the game as Liverpool were desperately searching for a goal.

“It’s absolutely stupid from Andy Robertson. He leaves his foot in which could cause him a problem himself,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. "But the goalkeeper’s got to go down and that clock’s ticking away. He’s never going to get there.

“Just that trailing right foot. Just seems to hand his right foot there a little bit longer than maybe he should. It’s a daft thing to do because this is what you’re going to get now. Liverpool need the ball back in play as soon as possible. He was never going to get that ball.”

While on commentary, Carragher thought Joe Gomez would be substituted at half-time for Ibrahima Konate after a torrid first half, but Klopp decided against this.

“Joe Gomez has been all over the place in this first half. He really has,” Carragher said while on commentary duty for Sky.

“He had a poor first half in Napoli a few weeks ago and Matip came on at half-time. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw [Ibrahima] Konate at half-time either.”
