Jamie Carragher hits back at "absolute s***" during Liverpool and Man Utd debate

Jamie Carragher has slammed the Glazers for their treatment of Manchester United over the years, in comparison to how Fenway Sports Group have run Liverpool.

There has been so much uncertainty about the future of the Red Devils in recent months, with the Glazers not completely certain if they want a full sale. Sir Jim Ratcliffe is the reported favourite to become the next owner of United, however, after he reportedly outbid Sheikh Jassim.

The third and final deadline for offers to buy United passed on Friday, with INEOS owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe among those hoping to win the race. Jassim is said to be one the favourites in a Qatari-led bid, while a number of other parties have expressed an interest in buying the Red Devils.

A clip of Carragher speaking about the Glazers and how their current situation compares to FSG emerged on Twitter as the former Liverpool defender debated with Gary Neville. Carragher, however, defended what he said and criticised the Glazers for how they have controlled the club.

He said on Twitter: "Small segment of the full debate, which started with my friend saying FSG & the Glazers were the same, which is absolute s***e! Glazers take out of the club, let Old Trafford rot, did nothing with the training ground, have no structure at the club. Total opposite of FSG."

As per the BBC, Ratcliffe has technically offered more than Jassim, with his bid the highest relative to the percentage he intends to purchase. However, Jassim is said to remain confident about his chances of buying United, with the Telegraph stating that he believes his offer is the 'best for the club, fans and community'.

There are also a number of investment funds interested in purchasing a minority stake in United, but they were not set the same deadline to make their latest offer. The Glazers announced back in November that they had put the club up for sale. In a statement, they did admit the process may not result in a full sale and that they could retain an involvement.

The Glazers said last year: "The process is designed to enhance the club's future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalise on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially.

"As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company. There can be no assurance that the review being undertaken will result in any transaction involving the Company."
