Jamie Carragher believes that, despite dropping points this week, Manchester United have been dealt a reprieve by results.
Ralf Rangnick's side continued their head-scratching antics as they squandered leads and shared the spoils with both Burnley and Southampton but after the latest round of results, they still remain within touching distance of jumping back into the Champions League spots.
United sat in the top four prior to the winter break but sit a point outside the places with Arsenal and Spurs lurking with games in hand.
With Wolves' win over Spurs thrusting them into contention, the Sky Sports pundit feels the Reds' involvement in the elite European competition could play its part.
"If you look [at the table] now, it hasn't actually been the worst weekend in the world for Manchester United considering how poor they were yesterday," he said on Sky Sports.
"It's been an absolutely terrible four or five days for Tottenham, it really has.
"Arsenal? What a result that was away at Wolves, the games in hand, no European football…
"We don't know how long Manchester United will be in the Champions League, that could play a part ... it feels like it will go to the wire."
