Jamie Carragher gives damning half-time verdict that sums up big Liverpool problems

Jamie Carragher gave a stark verdict on Liverpool’s issues after their first half performance against Brentford.

The Reds were trailing 2-0 thanks to an own goal from Ibrahima Konate and a header from Yoane Wissa. It led to Jurgen Klopp making three substitutions at half time.

Virgil van Dijk, Kostas Tsimikas and Harvey Elliott were replaced by Joel Matip, Andy Robertson and Naby Keita. It remains to be seen whether all the changes were tactical or if any injuries were involved. And it was at the interval where Carragher slammed Liverpool’s performance and their current situation.

The Liverpool legend explained why he thinks his old club have struggled against teams like Brentford. Carragher went on to say that a phase for this team is “coming to an end”.

“I wouldn’t say I was massively confident (coming into this game), because Liverpool have had problems all season against teams who are physical, when the game has intensity they can’t cope,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“This is a team, let’s not forget, that pride themselves on saying intensity is our identity.

“They can’t cope with that anymore at this moment. It looks like an ageing team coming to the end, at that was absolutely shambolic that first half.”
