Jamie Carragher explains Liverpool 'worry' after Real Madrid loss as transfer prediction made

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's inability to score in every final they have played in this season is a concern and has refused to rule out the idea of a summer of change at the club.

Jurgen Klopp's side took Chelsea to penalties in the finals of the Carabao and FA Cup after failing to score in 120 minutes of action and, while they won both matches on spot-kicks, they paid the price for failing to find the back of the net in their Champions League showpiece fixture with Real Madrid on Saturday.

Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois put in a man-of-the-match performance to keep the Reds at bay throughout proceedings and earned his side a 1-0 win, denying the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane with smart saves. Although of the view that credit should go the way of the Belgian shot-stopper for his heroics between the sticks, Liverpool's lack of killer instinct has left Carragher questioning whether fans could be seeing a 'different' team next season.

IAN DOYLE ANALYSIS: Mohamed Salah change needed as free transfer question emerges for Jurgen Klopp

Speaking on CBS after the defeat to Madrid the former Reds defender said: “They [Liverpool] were up against a great goalkeeper, who had one of the best games he will ever have. When I say Liverpool’s front three didn’t do quite enough, they still didn’t quite have a chance where you think ‘he has to score or he must score’.

“Mo Salah hasn’t been right in the second half of the season. This is Mo Salah at his best (his right-footed shot that was saved by Courtois). You have to hold your hands up and say the keeper is absolutely fantastic.

“Liverpool have played in three finals, haven’t scored in any of them, yet this is one of the best teams for scoring goals. That is a worry going forward. Also, the situation with Salah and Mane, this could be, not the end for this team, but who knows what will happen in the summer now. It could be a different Liverpool team we are looking at next season if you had to replace those two.”
