Jamie Carragher disagrees with Gary Neville over Chelsea future once Roman Abramovich sells club

Prior to Chelsea's FA Cup win against Luton Town on Wednesday night, Roman Abramovich confirmed that he would be selling the west London club after almost two decades in charge.

Abramovich confirmed that the Blues were set to be put up for sale in an official statement to the club’s website.

Recent developments have suggested that the consortium led by Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss and LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly is expected to make a bid to buy Chelsea in the next 48 hours, with at least one other unnamed American businessman on board.

A potential change in ownership could take as little as 10 days according to Premier League chief executive Richard Masters, although he did warn that any deal would collapse if government sanctions are imposed on Abramovich.

Ahead of the news surrounding the club's ownership, Gary Neville argued that Chelsea will be able to cope in the absence of Abramovich.

"The reality is Chelsea will be okay and obviously he’s got the money," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"Irrespective over whether you like the idea of Russian money coming into English football or not, Roman Abramovich has been a very good owner for Chelsea Football Club and there are worse owners that are English."

However, Jamie Carragher disagrees with his fellow pundit and believes that the post-Abramovich era could mean there won't be any quick fixes should the club continue to make expensive mistakes in the market.

"It may sound premature to say the party is over once Abramovich completes his sale, but the next revolution at Stamford Bridge will involve readjusting to a world in which Chelsea have joined the ranks of most Premier League clubs - knowing if they make expensive mistakes there is no quick fix," Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph.

Abramovich will leave Chelsea having seen the club win every possible trophy available under his stewardship, so it will be interesting to see if the club can manage similar success without him.
