Jamie Carragher brands Tottenham Hotspur a 'disgrace' in brutal verdict on Newcastle United horrorshow

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher branded Tottenham Hotspur a "disgrace" during their first-half implosion against Newcastle United.

Jacob Murphy and Aleksandar Isak scored two goals each with Joelinton getting his name on the scoresheet as Eddie Howe's side netted five in the first 20 minutes of their European showdown. The race for top four in the Premier League took another twist as Cristian Stellini was left bewildered after the Magpies ran riot at St James' Park, with the score 5-0 at the break.

Liverpool made it back-to-back wins with their closely fought triumph over Nottingham Forest on Saturday to move to within three points of Spurs in the Europa Leage place. After just half an hour, it was damage limitation for Spurs in the North East.

Carragher couldn't help but weigh in on what was unfolding on Sunday.

The former defender was ruthless in his response, he tweeted: "Newcastle are brilliant, they have been all season. Tottenham are a disgrace!

"How have they gone to a back four for the first time this season, with Porro a full back that can’t defend & Perisic who is a winger. Get a proper manager in right now, not Conte’s mate."

The North London club will travel to Merseyside next weekend for another important encounter in the context of the battle for European football next season. The Reds already have routs against Bournemouth and Manchester United this season plus emphatic wins over Rangers before netting six past Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday.

Stellini, who was Antonio Conte's assistant manager during the Italian's spell in the capital, replaced the former Inter Milan and Chelsea boss after he was sacked during the March international break. The decision from the Spurs chiefs came days after Conte's furious tirade at his players following their capitulation against relegation-threatened Southampton that saw them squander a two-goal lead.
