Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards agree on Liverpool legend who was 'better' than Kevin De Bruyne

Jamie Carragher, Micah Richards and Jamie Redknapp all believe Steven Gerrard in his prime was a better player than Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne on his best form. The three Sky Sports pundits took part in Pick One, Kick One.

City star De Bruyne is regarded by many as the best midfielder in world football, but former Liverpool captain Gerrard was chosen ahead of the Belgian by the three pundits.

Former City player Richards believes De Bruyne has the potential to be better than Gerrard, but stuck with the ex-Red for now. Gerrard won all there was to win during his time with Liverpool apart from the Premier League. He produced a heroic display in matches such as the Champions League final in 2005 and the FA Cup final in 2006.

City star man De Bruyne, like Gerrard, has won all there is to win during his time with the Manchester club, but one trophy has eluded him. The Champions League is a trophy the Belgian, and the club, are yet to win. De Bruyne was forced off with a facial injury in the final when City lost 1-0 to Chelsea in 2021.

Redknapp started off the debate by saying: "I mean, this is probably the hardest question ever. It's like choosing who's your favourite child. But, Kevin De Bruyne, what a player. The way that he plays, his crosses, his shots. I've got to go with my boy Steven Gerrard."

Ex-Red Carragher opted for Gerrard because of his Istanbul performance: "Oh, that would have to be peak Steven Gerrard and the reason why is because of Steven Gerrard's performance in Istanbul. Kevin De Bruyne is my favourite player in the Premier League, but unfortunately Kevin, Steven Gerrard comes out on top."

Former City defender Richards went against De Bruyne, but highlighted how he could overtake Gerrard in the future: "Gerrard in his prime was just devastating. I think De Bruyne has got potential to be better than Gerrard, but right now, as it stands, I'm going Gerrard. Just!"
