Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville disagree over Newcastle top-four prediction

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have disagreed over whether Newcastle United will secure a top-four finish this season. The Magpies currently sit third in the Premier League, having not lost a top-flight fixture since August.

Eddie Howe's side have only scored once in their last four league matches though, and were held to a frustrating goalless draw at Crystal Palace in their last outing. The Magpies hold a three-point cushion and a game in hand over fifth-placed Tottenham, although attention now turns to their Carabao Cup semi-final tie with Southampton.

The Sky Sports pundits revealed their predictions for the remainder of the campaign on Monday Night Football. Carragher tipped league leaders Arsenal to hold on to pole position, while Neville expects Manchester City to win their fifth title in six seasons.

The pair also did not agree on which team would claim fourth place alongside the Gunners, City and Manchester United. For Carragher, he believes the Magpies will take advantage of their lack of European football this season to take the final spot.

He told Sky Sports: "Newcastle aren't involved in Europe and when I watch them play there is so much energy. They have the best defence in the Premier League, I've been so impressed with them. It feels like there is a togetherness between the players and the crowd, like at Arsenal."

However, Neville believes it would be 'unbelievable' for Newcastle to maintain their current momentum and qualify for next season's Champions League. The former Manchester United full-back reckons it will be Tottenham that will finish in fourth.

Neville said: "I said Manchester United would finish above Arsenal, and I'm sticking with it. You can be wrong with predictions! Newcastle have been incredible, but it was be a unbelievable if they could sustain it until the end of the season."
