Former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher used his Soccer Aid appearance on Sunday as the perfect excuse to deliver another dig to his punditry colleague Gary Neville.
Both Carragher and Neville lined up in defence for England in the 11th edition of the popular annual charity match against a World XI, with both teams comprising of celebrities and former footballers. The Three Lions' opponents included legendary Brazilian fullbacks Cafu and Roberto Carlos and after posing for a photo with the World Cup-winners, centre-back Carragher uploaded a cheeky post to his Instagram page.
It read: " Everybody grows up & wants to be @oficialrc3 @cafu2," followed by a wink emoji. The comment draws reference to a previous quote from Carragher about the lack of glamour to be gained playing as a full-back, in which he said: "Nobody grows up wanting to be a Gary Neville."

Despite its modest standing historically in football, Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson have gone to lengths to improve the appeal of the position with a rack of goals and assists from right-back and left-back respectively, under Jurgen Klopp.
Speaking to reporters during the Reds' 2019/20 Premier League winning season, Alexander-Arnold said: "We have a competition between us to see who can get the most goals and assists and it pushes us. As a pair, we want to change the way the position has previously been thought about. Obviously there was the famous saying ‘no one wants to grow up to be a full-back or a Gary Neville’. We want to bring in a different way of thinking and that’s what we’ve been doing over the last 18 months.”
Despite having both Neville and Carragher in their rear guard, England lost the Soccer Aid match on Sunday against the World XI on penalties after a 2-2 draw, further proving the superiority of full-backs Carlos and Cafu, even after retirement.
