Jamie Cannon: Police confirm body found has been identified as missing teenager

Police have confirmed this afternoon that a body found in the Ardeer area of Stevenston has been identified as Jamie Cannon.

The missing 19-year-old vanished from his home in Saltcoats in May 2021 with a body being found almost nine months later on Saturday afternoon.

Cops say that Jamie's family have been made aware and are being supported by police.

Officials say that the family have requested privacy at this difficult time.

Police also confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police Scotland can confirm that the body recovered in the Ardeer area of Stevenston, on Saturday, February 26, has been identified as Jamie Cannon, who was reported missing from Saltcoats in May 2021.

"Jamie’s family have been made aware and are being supported by officers. They have requested privacy and our thoughts remain with them at this time.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
