Jamie and Rebekah Vardy are devastated after a fire destroyed their state-of-the-art home gym.

Firefighters were called to Leicester and England footballer Vardy’s rural property which he bought for £2.5million in 2016.

The blaze broke out in a large wooden outbuilding built for Vardy and his wife Rebekah to work out near Grantham, Lincolnshire at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

Four crews, police and a helicopter were scrambled due to the size of the blaze.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said 90 per cent of the building was destroyed with all equipment inside.

Mrs Vardy posted on social media on Friday afternoon: “A massive thank you to Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue. You guys are absolutely incredible.”

It is understood Mr Vardy, 36, whose team are at home to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday, returned to find emergency services at the scene.

They had been called by builders working at the mansion who discovered flames thought to have been started by an electrical fault.

Mrs Vardy, 40, was not at home at the time and is said to be currently away filming a Channel 4 documentary about Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The couple, who married in 2016, have three children together Sofia, Finley and Olivia. Mrs Vardy has two others, Megan and Taylor, from previous relationships. None were at home and no one else was injured.

Mrs Vardy later posted a snap of two of them sat in a fire engine with the caption: “Every cloud and all that. Thankfully no one was hurt… Buildings and contents are replaceable and kiddies enjoyed the fire engines.”

A source told MailOnline: “It was a really big fire, it has caused a lot of damage. The building is destroyed.

“It will cost a lot to put right - the gym equipment was all state-of-the-art, it would have cost thousands. Thank fully no one was hurt.”

During lockdown, Mrs Vardy posted a picture of the couple working out together at the gym.

The couple have had extensive work carried out at the property in recent years, including adding a dressing room and large exterior fence.

According to reports, it boasts an indoor pool, a sauna and tennis court and 12 bedrooms.

Last year, Mrs Vardy lost a High Court libel case against Coleen Rooney - wife of former England footballer Wayne Rooney – over allegations she leaked stories to The Sun newspaper.
