Jameson Williams to lose $6.877M in guaranteed salary due to suspension

Jameson Williams’ rookie season got off to a late start due to a torn ACL suffered in college and he’ll now miss the start of his 2023 campaign, too. The NFL suspended Williams six games due to a gambling violation, along with three other Lions players.

It’s a significant loss for Detroit, but it’ll also be a hit to Williams’ bank account. According to Jason Fitzgerald of Over The Cap, Williams will lose at least $382,906 in salary, as well as $6.877 million in guaranteed salary – $5.37 million of which was set to come in 2024 and 2025.

Williams’ suspension is the result of him gambling on college games while at the Lions’ facility. Quintez Cephus and C.J. Moore received indefinite suspensions of at least one year for gambling on NFL games, the same suspension Calvin Ridley received last year.

Williams is expected to be a big part of the Lions offense next season but he won’t get the chance to play in any games until at least Week 7, depending on when the Lions’ bye week is.
