James Tavernier makes Connor Goldson prediction as Rangers stalwart suffers Ibrox injury blow

JAMES TAVERNIER insists vice-captain Connor Goldson will still make his voice heard at Ibrox as he faces up to a period out of action this term.

The centre-back was forced off during the first half of the defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday night and had to watch on as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side crumbled in the Champions League.

Rangers shipped six goals after the break as Roberto Firmino completed his brace and Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott netted either side of a stunning six-minute hat-trick from Mohamed Salah.

The loss of Goldson compounded a miserable night for boss Van Bronckhorst and the Englishman was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after suffering a rare injury setback.

Goldson has been a reliable and robust figure throughout his Ibrox career and has barely missed a training session or match as he has become a stalwart on and off the park.

Rangers will now have to bounce back from another European embarrassment without the presence of one of their key men and there are also fitness doubts over defensive partner Ben Davies in the aftermath of the Reds clash.

But skipper Tavernier has no doubt that Goldson will have a significant part to play as he attempts to rally his side to salvage their pride in Europe and build some momentum in the Premiership title race before the World Cup break.

Tavernier said: "Look at all the Champions League defeats we have had.

"We have always come back into the league and put on a really good performance.

"It's the Champions League and it's a great bonus for us as players and the club, and we want to try to do our best in it.

"But our full, main focus is the league and the domestic cups.

"Connor will be a big miss. But he is in and around the building and I'm sure he will be around the changing room, handing out his voice.

"We have great leaders in the squad. We know what it takes, we demand off each other and we will continue to do that."
