James Talbot called up as Gavin Bazunu is ruled out of Ireland's Nations League games

Gavin Bazunu has been ruled out of Ireland’s upcoming Nations League games against Ukraine and Scotland.

And Bohemians goalkeeper James Talbot has today been called into Stephen Kenny's senior squad as cover.

Manchester City keeper Bazunu was forced to miss the 1-0 defeat to Armenia on Saturday.

He shipped a back injury in training in Yerevan on Thursday and had to sit out half of that session.

And while he warmed up with the other goalkeepers at the eve of match training on Friday, he couldn’t take a full part and then missed the game.

Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher started between the posts, just as he had for the March friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania when Bazunu pulled out with illness.

Bournemouth’s Mark Travers will be back up to Kelleher for Wednesday’s home clash with Ukraine, Saturday’s Aviva Stadium encounter with Scotland and the away game against Ukraine in Lodz, Poland next Tuesday.

Bazunu is set to leave Manchester City ahead of the new season - either on loan again or, possibly, in a permanent deal - and aggravating the back injury further could jeopardise a move.
