James Sands to cost Rangers '£4.5million' if they trigger permanent deal option

Transfer fee for permanent James Sands to Rangers deal revealed

THE figure Rangers will need to pay to land James Sands on a permanent deal has been revealed, according to one report..

The Light Blues hold an option to buy the versatile midfielder as part of their deal with New York City.

Sands joined Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side on an 18-month initial loan back in January this year.

He has been played in midfield, at right-back as well as centre-back.

The 21-year-old played a bit-part role in the second-half of the season, making 14 appearances in all competitions.

He will be looking for more game time in the campaign ahead in order to win a permanent switch to Ibrox.

And MLS expert Tom Bogert reckons he'll manage exactly that - with the insider saying Rangers will then having to fork out £4.5million for the player.

He tweeted: "Was told Rangers' purchase clause for on-loan NYCFC and USMNT defender James Sands is $6 million. Dunno if there was a loan fee too or not.

"I would assume Rangers will trigger that. Think he'll be really good this year."

Whether the Ibrox club need to pay quite as much as Bogert suggests remains to be seen.

A lower figure of around £3million could be enough to get the deal over the line in 12-months.
