James Sands is a player Rangers will have alternatives for if they decide not to take up his option to make him a permanent star, according to Alan Hutton.
The American international arrived last January on an 18-month loan deal from New York City with an exclusive option to buy, which is reported to be in the region of £4.5 million. That's a lot of money according to the former Ibrox right-back, who has watched Sands fill in at centre-back alongside some forays into his natural midfield role due to injuries for the likes of Connor Goldson.
Hutton isn't convinced it's an instant green light with the millions he'd cost so he anticipates that Rangers will already be contemplating other options, even if they do end up going with Sands. He told Football Insider: "It is definitely a situation they will be thinking about at this moment in time. I know it was a long loan, £4/5million I think is a lot of money if I am totally honest.

"He has come in and played his part, he has played a lot more than what I thought he would. That is obviously down to circumstances as well.
“I think they will be looking at both options. Whether they want to spend that sort of money on him or do they have other options.
"I think they will have a plan A and a plan B definitely moving forward. “
