Acting star James Nesbitt has reportedly rekindled his romance with former flame Katy Gleadhill, after she welcomed a baby last year with the help of a close friend.
James, 58, split with the 40-year-old two years ago when the actress admitted she wanted to focus on having a baby before she turned 40 and went down the route of fertility treatment.
And now, according to reports in The Mirror, the Cold Feet actor and Katy have gotten close to each other again as she has hailed him as an "amazing guy," as a source said being with his girlfriend is what's most important to him and he "understands the baby is part of that".
They said: "It’s definitely a very modern set-up but everyone is happy and that’s all that matters.
"...He cares about her and they remain close, so he has been taking on some ‘daddy duties’ even though the decision to have a child was an entirely independent one taken by the mother at a time when they weren’t together."
The source added to The Sun that James wants to help Katy with what he can.
The Irish actor got together with the actress in 2015 and they were seen together at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards show the same year.
But things soon turned sour when a friend claimed the couple had differing opinions on having children within the relationship.
James, who starred in hit Netflix drama series The Missing, has two children, Peggy, 26, and Mary, 22, who he shares with actress Sonia Forbes-Adam.
He tied the knot with Sonia in 1994 but in October 2013, James announced the couple had called time on their 19 years together and they divorced in 2016.
A spokesman for the couple at the time: “James and Sonia are living separately and have been for some time. They are on the best of terms and ask that the family’s privacy be respected.”
It comes as James revealed in 2021 that he has been secretly living with alopecia during an appearance on The One Show when he explained it had impacted his eyebrow and beard growth.
The acting star's unusual look led viewers to speculate on social media why his trademark bushy eyebrows had dramatically changed shape when MailOnline then revealed he was sporting fake eyebrows applied by the hair and make-up team.
A source close to the Irish star said: "James has no issue at all with having Alopecia. He's been living with it for some time and it does not affect his life in any way.
"James has never tried to hide it while away from filming. But when he's in character, it's normal for make-up to be applied on that area where there is now no hair."
The star has spoken of past “catastrophic” mistakes. These included a fling with a 22-year-old secretary and another said to involve Cold Feet co-star Kimberley Joseph.
He said: “It was never anything to do with my wife. Any time I did anything like that, drink was involved.
“I don’t think I did anything sober. I just regret all the hurt that it caused to my family.”
The Mirror have contacted his representatives for comment.
