Liverpool midfielder James Milner is on course to reach another huge landmark in his career as he closes in on 600 Premier League appearances this season.
The veteran has benefited from Liverpool ’s injury woes in the current campaign after finding himself more regularly used than first thought under Jurgen Klopp, with his versatility also holding him in good stead as he prepares to move into the top three record appearance holders.
His most recent appearance against Nottingham Forest last weekend came at right-back as he deputised for Trent Alexander-Arnold. That brought up number 598 in the Premier League and Mirror Football takes a look at where Milner currently ranks in the Premier League appearance standings.
How many games has Milner played?
Throughout his career, Milner has racked up 829 appearances for six different clubs, although it is his Premier League appearances that count the most.
Since making his debut as a 16-year-old for Leeds United in November 2022, almost 20 years ago when he became the second-youngest player ever to play in the Premier League, Milner has recorded a total of 598 appearances in the top flight.
The majority of those have come with Liverpool, who he has featured 209 times for, followed by Manchester City (147), Aston Villa (100), Newcastle (94) and Leeds (48).

Where does Milner rank for Premier League appearances?
Milner currently ranks as the fourth-highest player in the Premier League appearances record table and is on course to become just the fourth player to play 600 games in the top flight.
The record for most appearances is held by Gareth Barry, who featured 653 times following spells with Aston Villa (365), Manchester City (132), Everton (131) and West Brom (25) before retiring in 2020.
Ryan Giggs is next on the list after making 632 appearances with Manchester United ahead of his retirement in 2014, while Frank Lampard sits in third-place with 609 appearances following spells with Chelsea (429), West Ham (148) and Man City (32).
When will Milner reach 600 appearances?
After signing a one-year contract extension with Liverpool in the summer, Milner is now firmly on course to reach 600 Premier League appearances this season, which is likely to be achieved in the three remaining league games before next month’s World Cup.
Despite not being a regular starter at Anfield, Milner is likely to equal and surpass Lampard’s record of 609 Premier League appearances in the remaining 27 games of the season, which would put him third in the list of record appearance holders.
However, at 36-years-old, time is running out for the former England international and it will take him at least another year to equal Giggs’ current record of 632, while this is also expected to be his final season with Liverpool. He appears unlikely to hit Barry's astonishing record but if recent performances show anything - he still has plenty left in the tank.
