James Milner's frustrations with Cody Gakpo spotted in Liverpool's game at Crystal Palace

Liverpool struggled to get going in the first half of their match at Crystal Palace on Saturday evening, and the looks on the faces of some of their players certainly showed it.

A couple of errors from Trent Alexnder-Arnold almost allowed Palace in to score in the opening 45 minutes, with Jean-Philippe Mateta firing their best effort against the crossbar.

Liverpool hit the outside of the post themselves through Diogo Jota, but they delivered a disjointed display with several players below par.

At one stage of the first half Jordan Henderson could be seen berating both Naby Keita and Joel Matip due to Liverpool's slow build-up, with veteran James Milner also taking aim at Cody Gakpo on one occasion.

A promising Liverpool move saw the ball played into Gakpo, but instead of holding the ball the Dutchman tried a flick and the attack ended.

Milner was unimpressed, and shouted at Gakpo after the attack broke down.

The midfielder was one of four changes to the Liverpool side from the defeat to Real Madrid, with Jurgen Klopp confirming two new injuries before the game, as both Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez were ruled out.

“They are both injured,” Klopp told Sky Sports before kick-off. “So, Darwin had the shoulder problem from the Newcastle game.

“[It] worked out for the Real Madrid game but then [he] got another knock there, felt it again and more so there was no chance for today. Hopefully he can be [back] in midweek again.”

Klopp spoke in depth about the changes Liverpool need to make in the summer at Friday's press conference.

“Money always has an impact (on signings). But it can not be that much of an impact (this time),” he explained. “Of course it is influential, but it is a summer where we have to be in the market, definitely.

“We know we have to change things and we will, we cannot do that now - we just have to go through this and fight back - but it is already clear we have to do something in the summer. Around us obviously a few (clubs) are speeding up, and you cannot ignore that.

“I cannot decide at all about money, not about one penny. That was always the same. My job is to make 100 per cent clear what we need from a sports point of view and then other people are responsible for giving us the resources.”

“It is tricky and difficult and it will be a late decision, I guess.

“But we have to start work (on recruitment) earlier before we know where we will end up position-wise and European competition-wise. These things are clear here."
