James Milner has handed Liverpool an injury-scare after being forced off in the Reds’ Champions League clash with Napoli.
Captain on the night, the 36-year-old took a heavy blow to the head in the first half at Anfield. And although he carried on, he went down off the ball early after the restart and shook his head to the bench and pointed to his head to signal he wasn’t fit to continue.
After briefly being checked over, Harvey Elliott replaced the midfielder in the 48th minute with Virgil van Dijk taking the captain’s armband.

If suffering from concussion, Milner is likely due to be ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday at least due to Premier League rules.
Following the Reds’ trip to the capital, they host Derby County in the League Cup and then Southampton before the Premier League breaks up ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Klopp’s squad have suffered a plethora of injuries this season, especially in midfield, with 19 different players missing at least one match as a result. However, Milner was one of the few players to have previously avoided injury.
Meanwhile, with Naby Keita now back in training, Arthur Melo is the only one of Liverpool’s 10 senior midfielders currently sidelined.
