James Milner explains what Liverpool players will do in training after Darwin Nunez red card

James Milner believes Darwin Nunez will 'learn' from his sending off in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Monday night.

Nunez, making his first Premier League start for the Reds since his big-money summer switch from Benfica, was shown a straight red card in the second half for a headbutt on Palace centre-back Joachim Andersen.

The striker will now miss Liverpool's next three Premier League matches at least - including the clash against Manchester United next Monday night at Old Trafford.

IAN DOYLE: Darwin Nunez's silly, stupid and utterly mindless sending off hands Liverpool long-term concern

Milner, who started in the midfield for Liverpool in the draw with Palace, insists the Reds squad will rally round Nunez.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I didn’t see the incident but he’ll be disappointed. It’s down to us to rally round him.. He’ll learn from it, but the reaction was the most important thing. The team reacted well, the ground reacted well, we could’ve nicked a win but, you know, we move on."

Milner was disappointed with Liverpool's second stalemate in two games, following the opening-day 2-2 draw at Fulham. But he insists they'll 'go again' next week when the Reds face bitter rivals United.

"It’s very early days, we go into every game wanting to win so when you drop points it’s disappointing," he said. "There’s a long way to go but we need to rally through this tough period with injuries here and there. We reorganise, recover and go again next week."

Luis Diaz equalised for Liverpool in the second half with a stunning effort from outside the box and Milner believes he is a player who can create 'something from nothing'.

"We’ve had the chances we had, moments around the box, but we didn’t get the break," said Milner. "Sometimes you need that moment of brilliance. When you’ve got a player like him on the pitch who can create something out of nothing, it’s an incredible goal, hopefully there will be many more to come from him."
