Liverpool legend Ian Rush believes James Milner deserves to be awarded a new contract.
Milner’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, having been at Anfield for close to seven years. So far this term, the 36-year-old has made 35 appearances in all competitions and is yet to score a goal.
Various reports have claimed to provide an update on Milner’s future, and whether or not he will put pen to paper on an extension. Jurgen Klopp confirmed in February that he wanted to hand the veteran midfielder a new deal to keep him at the club beyond this summer.

As things stand, Milner is set to leave as a free agent in less than two months, but things could change before then. Liverpool legend Rush says that Milner is more than deserving of a new deal.
“Reports suggest James Milner is to be offered a one-year extension to his Liverpool contract and if that is the case then I’d have to say he most definitely deserves one,” Rush told Gambling.com .
“I can see why Klopp would be keen to keep him around – he keeps himself in fantastic shape and he can still be one of the top performers on the pitch as he was against Newcastle last weekend.
“He might not be able to put in a performance like that every week or he’d burn himself out, but it’s reassuring to know that he still has that in the tank when Liverpool need it.
“He never lets the team down and with lots of youngsters coming through at the club, he’s the perfect role model for them to learn from.”
