James McClean meets Katie Taylor while on holiday in Las Vegas

James McClean was delighted to bump into Katie Taylor while on holiday in Las Vegas.

The veteran Republic of Ireland winger/wing-back is over there with his Wigan Athletic teammates to celebrate their promotion as champions to the Championship.

And the cherry on top of what looked to be a brilliant trip came when he snagged a photo with most people's choice for Ireland's greatest ever sportsperson.

Katie was in town to attend Canelo Alvarez' fight against Dmitry Bivol which saw the Mexican superstar thoroughly outboxed and upset by the Russian light-heavyweight champ.

While sitting ringside she spoke to DAZN and reiterated her desire to rematch Amanda Serrano in Croke Park for her next bout.

She said: “A rematch would be brilliant. I’m up for any challenge, I want to fight the best out there.

“I would absolutely love to fight in Ireland. A big fight in Croke Park with 80,000 people. That would probably be the only thing that could top what happened last week.

“Imagine filling 80,000 seats that would be very, very special. It would be easy to sell as well I think.”

Just one week on from the history-making fight in New York, the majority of Taylor's facial injuries suffered in the bout appear to have cleared up.

The undisputed lightweight champion bled heavily from a cut above her eye during the ten-round contest.

Taylor was also badly bruised after the bout, with Hearn having to wipe blood from the left side of her face at one stage during the post-fight press conference.

Meanwhile, Serrano, who was originally humble in defeat, has now claimed that she did not lose the fight.

She tweeted on Saturday night: "One week later…Had a chance to reflect on the fight against Katie. It was very close, but I did not lose. That I am certain of. Next time I will leave no doubt. Can’t Wait!

"I walked in a champ and I walked out a champ."

Serrano later called for the rematch to take place on the same card as a second bout between Canelo and Bivol.

Croke Park chief Peter McKenna has backed the call for the rematch to take place at GAA Headquarters, as have local residents and Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers.

But Eddie Hearn has indicated that the fight could also take place in the Middle East or at Madison Square Garden again.

2012 Olympic champion Taylor has never fought in Ireland as a professional and time is running out for it to happen.
