James Martin tells 'TV dad' Brian Turner he loves him in return after stroke

James Martin’s Saturday Morning viewers were left in tears after a touching moment with his "TV dad" Brian Turner. The ITV show host James Martin told 76-year-old chef he loves him as Brian gave an update about his health following a stroke last year.

Brian made a return to TV on the show alongside chef and presenter James and addressed recent health issues as they began a segment about how to cook sage lamb cobbler. James, 50, said: "Now first of all you want to say thank you - there's the camera - because you've not been very well recently..." as he gestured to the camera.

The former Ready Steady Cook regular explained: "Well, unfortunately I had a stroke in June last year and the people at the London hospital were fantastic and helpful. So, excuse me if I just make a stammer occasionally, but we will catch up at the end."

James responded: "It's OK, it's OK. I love you fella." He then asked those in the studio for a round of applause and added: "It's a pleasure to have you back." The pair also embraced and James described Brian as his "TV dad" during the episode, which aired on January 14.

Viewers were delighted to see the popular telly chef Brian, who has appeared on and presented numerous BBC and ITV shows, back on our screens. Many took to social media to share their reactions to his emotional reunion with James, reported The Mirror.

Lorraine Hancock wrote: "So so lovely to see Brian back with his TV son. Those man hugs made me tear up! All the best to you Chef Turner." Joanne Lane tweeted: "Lovely to see Brian, your relationship is so special. Always a smile in adverse circumstances."

Tracy Halkyard posted: "I'm watching with tears in my eyes. Saddened to hear of Brian's stroke and seeing how its affecting him, and warmed to my heart to see how James is so caring to him. Love you both xx".

Angie Coates added: "Lovely to see Brian and the dish looked tasty. You could see and feel the love and respect you have for each other."

The pair were moved by the lovely comments from viewers, with James thanking them via his own Twitter account. He posted a photo with his arm around Brian in the studio kitchen as he told fans how much the messages meant to them.

He wrote: "Wow, well what can we both say, just had Brian on the phone, ended in both us in tears at the amazing messages and support from you all…he wanted me to tell you all out there “thank you” for all of them!"
