James Martin reflects on ‘pinch yourself moments’ after revealing he’s taking a break amid cancer treatment

Saturday Kitchen star James Martin has reflected on the “pinch yourself moments” he’s experienced while on tour after revealing he’s going on “a little bit of a break” amid his cancer diagnosis.

The TV chef took to Instagram on Tuesday night to reflect on his latest tour stop in Newcastle, sharing a shot of him on stage looking out to the crowd.

Writing alongside the striking black and white image, the 51-year-old said he was taken aback by how “special” his show was.

He penned: “This tour and these nights are pinch yourself moments, moments in time that are really special and tonight was another… Newcastle you were amazing… Edinburgh tomorrow!

“Thank you to all of you who have come to see it so far and for the all the rest yet to see it… I’m looking forward to the last week of the UK tour!”

His latest social media post come as he shared an update on his facial cancer diagnosis.

The presenter revealed in July that he underwent surgery for the cancer in 2018 and has since had regular treatment as it has “returned on several occasions”.

Speaking at his tour show at the Philharmonic Hall on Monday, the 51-year-old said, per The Mirror: “For me personally, I’ve been through a lot of s**t with cancer but I’m getting sorted at the end of next month.

“I will be back fighting at the end of February but I’m going on a little bit of a break to get that sorted.

“I just wanted to say thank you for all your support and all your messages.”

Martin revealed his diagnosis earlier this year, saying: “I was then diagnosed with cancer on my face and I had to have surgery, which I couldn’t do until two days before Christmas when we had finished filming.

“Since then it has returned on several occasions and I have to have regular treatments.”

He announced his diagnosis as he issued an apology after an incident from 2018 came to light.

Reports emerged in July accusing the This Morning guest of exhibiting bullying and intimidating behaviour while filming James Martin’s Saturday Morning.

In a joint statement with production company Blue Marlin, he agreed that “lessons have been learned” and apologised “for any offence or upset caused”.
