James Martin branded a 'filthy chef' as This Morning star fumes over cooking technique

This Morning chef Gino D'Acampo took aim at James Martin on Tuesday as he criticised his fellow chef's cooking technique.

Gino returned to the This Morning studio after an extended break to prepare a tiramisu for Holly Willoughby and Dermot O'Leary.

As he prepared the popular dessert, Gino showed the presenters how he folds eggwhites.

"When you do the eggwhite you keep folding it like this, okay, because you don't want to lose the volume on the eggwhites," Gino explained.

"James Martin said it was better to fold with your hands..." Holly said as Dermot added: "Yes, he was adamant about it!"

"He said just dunk your fists in it," Holly clarified but Gino didn't see impressed with this suggestion.

"Filthy chef, that's why," the Italian chef quipped. "He's a filthy chef. Why would you want to fold it with your hands?"

"He's got lovely big hands," Dermot answered before Holly added: "He said it's more control."

Gino decided to try his fellow This Morning chef's method but, he quickly uncovered a problem with the hands-on technique.

Holly laughed as Gino got stuck in and asked: "Yeah, now you like it, don't you?" To which Gino replied: "Oh wow, oh it's quite satisfying, it's like putting your finger into a bubbly candle."

But, after being instructed to wash his hands, Gino pointed out the cream would be transferred from the mixing bowl to the sink.

"James Martin – please," he muttered before continuing on with preparing his dessert.

Earlier, Gino made an awkward remark on his return to the show alluding to the Phillip Schofield affair scandal.

The TV chef, who is a regular on This Morning, had enjoyed an extended break from the programme and asked what he had "missed" in the last month.

On his return, Gino said: "I was in Italy for a month and I can't wait to cook for all of you."

He continued: "Everything is under control, I'm back. Any news? Anything in the last month that I should know of?"

Holly and Dermot both look uncomfortable before the former quipped: "No news!"

Phillip stepped down from This Morning before later parting ways with ITV and his management company when he admitted to having an affair with a younger colleague.
