James Maddison to Tottenham transfer latest: Medical confirmed, verbal agreement, bid accepted

Leicester City star James Maddison is set to leave the King Power Stadium this summer with Tottenham Hotspur leading the race for his signature. Newcastle United were among the clubs interested in signing Maddison, but Spurs are closing in on a deal for the 26-year-old.

Tottenham are said to have agreed personal terms with Maddison as negotiations with Leicester are finally advancing, according to Fabrizio Romano. Ange Postecoglou is keen to tweak his squad in north London following his recent appointment, with Daniel Levy prepared to grant the ex-Celtic boss the spending power to bolster his ranks in all departments.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has become Spurs’ second signing of the summer after Dejan Kulusevski’s permanent move was confirmed. Now, the attention at the club has now turned to welcoming further arrivals through the door with Maddison topping the club's shortlist.

So, with that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest transfer chatter regarding Maddison and a potential move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

Maddison is set to undergo his medical at Spurs on Wednesday, June 28, ahead of an exciting move to north London, football.london understands.

Agreement close

The fee is said to be in the £40million region, with add-ons and additional fees to be decided before a final agreement is reached, with personal terms already completed.

Personal terms 'agreed'

Tottenham are said to have agreed personal terms with Maddison as negotiations with Leicester are finally advancing, according to Fabrizio Romano. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is very active on this deal, trying to get it done as soon as possible.

Bid prepared

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are looking to ‘thrash out’ a deal for Maddison this week and are preparing a bid of £40million for the playmaker in the hope that Leicester will reduce their asking price of £60m. Newcastle are said to have cooled their interest in the 26-year-old, with Spurs pushing to capitalise in case Eddie Howe’s side decide to return with an offer of their own.

Price tag set

Leicester are understood to be demanding a fee in the region of £60million for Maddison this summer, according to The Telegraph.

Newcastle battle

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle, Tottenham and Arsenal are both keen on a potential deal for Maddison this summer.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano said: “Maddison is 100 per cent leaving the club. Let me mention Newcastle because Newcastle love the player, Newcastle really appreciate him, they are in the race again and he is another player appreciated by Arsenal, these two clubs are interested in the situation of Maddison and I’m sure there will be a fight for this player."
