James Maddison sends Tottenham £35m transfer reminder as Antonio Conte eyes January spree

Tottenham target James Maddison impressed in Leicester City's 2-0 win over Everton, handing Antonio Conte a reminder ahead of the January transfer window. The 25-year-old was heavily linked with an exit from the King Power Stadium in the summer, with Arsenal and Spurs said to have been interested in his signature.

Maddison registered his ninth and 10th goal contribution of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign against Frank Lampard's side after two well-taken passes assisted Youri Tielemans and Harvey Barnes. He ran the show at Goodison Park as the Foxes clambered back up the table with three hard-fought points.

The England international, who is valued at £34.8million by CIES Football Observatory, will be hoping that his impressive displays this term will encourage Gareth Southgate to take him to the World Cup in Qatar later this month. In the meantime, Maddison has continued to showcase his ability with Newcastle United said to be one of several clubs in the market for a player of his ilk.

football.london understood that Conte wanted to sign an attacking midfielder in the summer but director Fabio Paratici wasn't able to meet the Italian boss' demand. According to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Maddison is on the north London side's radar and Champions League qualification is a 'big appeal' to the Englishman.

Spurs are currently third in the Premier League and a place in the top-four in far from secured with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United eager to push them off their perch. And, to ensure that Tottenham retain their position, Conte has been very vocal about the need for signings in January.

Last month, the Spurs boss was asked whether he needs a more natural alternative for a creative player like Dejan Kulusevski in January. He replied: "Now we have to try to finish this period which for us is really tough.

"You have important injuries and You have to face the situation in the best possible way. Then we'll see. We have to arrive until the last game in November and then with the club we’ll see the situation, if we have to do something or we continue in the same way.

"But now I think we have to be focused to do our best, because this period is not easy. For this reason I ask our fans also to stay very close to us, to push us because also it will be really, really difficult against Newcastle on Sunday."
