James Maddison's 'perfect' move to Newcastle United claim made amid Tottenham interest

James Maddison has been told a move to Newcastle United would be perfect for the next stage in his career. The Magpies had a number of bids knocked back by Leicester City last summer, with the Foxes hoping to keep the playmaker at the King Power.

Eddie Howe's side were once again linked with Maddison in the January window, but the Foxes were keen on keeping their star man as they look to stave off relegation. His fine form for the Premier League strugglers saw him rewarded with another England cap and a number of clubs are reportedly keen on his signature.

Maddison's contract expires at the King Power at the end of next season, but the general consensus is that he'll leave Leicester City this summer. Newcastle's push for Champions League football could tip the odds in their favour, with Tottenham Hotspur the latest club reportedly interested.

Man City have also been credited with an interest, but Newcastle would present Maddison with a better opportunity for game time. Former Aston Villa front man Gabby Agbonlahor believes a move to St. James' Park would be perfect given Howe's play style.

"I just feel like Spurs shouldn’t make the same mistake they did with Jack Grealish," Agbonlahor told Football Insider. “They tried to save money and get his price down, and they missed out. Maddison is exactly what they need.

“They could change the way they play entirely and go to a 4-3-3. It’d be perfect. But they’ll have competition. Newcastle will be there with £55million if Tottenham offer £50million.

They might be in the Champions League, and Tottenham look like they won’t be. If I’m Maddison I would choose Newcastle – because Tottenham are shaky, and Newcastle are a club on the up.”
