James Maddison injury: Tottenham assess star after need for crutches prompt layoff fears

James Maddison will be assessed by Tottenham today after leaving the stadium on crutches and with a protective boot on his right foot on Saturday.

Maddison came through the 2-0 win over Manchester United apparently unscathed and the England international told reporters the measures were "a precaution", but he was due to be assessed by medical staff at Hotspur Way this morning.

Meanwhile, Spurs captain Heung-min Son has said he will always be there for former team-mate Dele Alli, who was back at Spurs to watch Saturday's win.

Dele recently spent six weeks in a US rehab facility to address an addiction to sleeping pills and issues arising from a traumatic upbringing, in which he revealed he was molested aged six and turned to dealing drugs.

"It was a really tough moment for him and obviously I'm always there to support him because he's one of my closest friends," Son said. "This relationship is very special. He helped me a lot settling down in the UK when I was struggling.

"He was helping me a lot and is still a good friend of mine. It's always good to see him and anytime if he needs anything, any second, I will be always there for him. I don't want him to have tough times anymore."

Dele is hoping to get his career back on track with Everton this season and Son added: "We will always support him. Obviously, it's up to him now, because he has to recover well, get fit and play well.

"His quality is not in doubt, because he has been showing in the Premier League what he can do. Look, I'm always supporting him, like a member of the family."
