James Jordan defends 'thinner' comment about wife Ola's weight after backlash

James Jordan has defended himself against criticism for saying he 'prefers wife Ola when she's 'thinner', as the couple attract plenty of attention for their significant weight loss.

Both James and Ola rose to TV fame as pro dancers on Strictly Come Dancing, with Ola winning the show alongside Chris Hollins. It's been a few years now since Strictly fans have seen James and Ola on the BBC show, with James going onto star in Celebrity Big Brother and win Dancing on Ice and then both stripping off for ITV's annual charity event The Real Full Monty.

Over the last week, the husband and wife pair have been proudly showing off the results of their weight loss, having both been left unhappy by their weight gain over the last few years. James and Ola have attributed their significant drop in pounds to a lifestyle overhaul as they launch their own workout programme Dance Shed.

However, James has come under fire for a remark he made in an interview about preferring Ola when she's 'smaller', with critics saying his comment did little to promote body positivity.

They both appeared as guests on Lorraine on Tuesday and host Lorraine Kelly put James on the spot over what he said and the negative reaction it attracted. Attempting to clear up what was said, James told her: "The thing is I was actually asked that question 'do you prefer Ola thinner?' and I said yes I do, but I prefer her thinner because she's happier thinner."

Opening up on the wider implications of Ola's weight on them having children. James added: "We went to the IVF clinic and were told that if we want to conceive again, it's going to help us a lot if we're both thinner."
